The highest peak is Nanga Parbat at an altitude of 8125 m above sea level. It is Pakistan's 2nd and world's 9th highest peak. It is also called killer mountain due to its highest fatality rate. Deosai Plains Skardu

The western Himalya is mainly dominated by Deosai plains which covers an area of more than 3000 square km. Deosai is world's 2nd highest plateau after Tibetan plateau. Deosai is located in south of Skardu city and it takes an hour by jeep from Skardu city.

Three of the world's major rivers, the Indus  the Gangas and the Brahamputra all rise from the Himalayas.

The Indus river runs south west from Tibetan plateau through Ladakh and then enters Pakistan near Skardu then it runs through full length of Pakistan to the Arabian Sea. Indus river also marks the boundary line between Himalaya, Karakoram and Hindukush and at one point, at the confluence of Indus and Gilgit rivers all three great mountain ranges of the world meet each other.

On its way the Indus river is fed by the Jhelum, the Chenab, the Ravi, the Beas, and the Sutlej rivers, which also trace their sources in the western Himalyan regions of Kashmir. On the other hand most of the eastern Himalayan rivers drain the Ganges-Brahmaputra Basin. The Ganges and the Brahmaputra meet in Bangladesh, and drain into the Bay of Bengal.
