Khaplu valley

Kahplu valley Ghangche district is located in Baltistan division of Gilgit Baltistan .Ghangche
district is strategically very important district of Pakistan located at the border of
two countries India to south and China to north east. To its northeast is China’s
Xinxiang province, to the west is Skardu district, to its south is Ladakh District
of Jammu Kashmir India. The Line of control (LOC) at the easternmost part of
Ghangche District cuts through the Siachen region.
The capital of Ghangche district is Khaplu town.

Laila peak Hushe valley Ghanche

There are numerous highest peaks ranging from 4000 m to 8000 m .Some major
highest peaks located in Ghangche district are:
1) Masherbrum 7,821 meters
2) Gasherbrum II(13th highest)–8035 meters (26,360 ft)–
3) Gasherbrum III–7,952 meters (26,089 ft)
4) Gasherbrum IV–7,952 meters (26,089 ft)
5) Gasherbrum V–7,147 meters (23,448 ft)
6) Saltoro kangri 7742 m(25,400 ft)
7) Chogo Lingsa 7665 m(25148 ft)
8) K7 peak 6935 m
9) K6 peak7282m (23891ft)
Siachen glacier is located in Ghangche district of Baltistan. It is 78 Km long and
world’s longest glacier. The glacier's melting waters are the main source of
the Shyok River which joins Indus near Skardu.
The glacier is the highest battlefield on Earth, where Pakistan and India have
fought since April 1984 when India launched military operation in region. Both
countries maintain a permanent military presence in the region at a height of over
6,000 m (20,000 ft).
On 7 April 2012, an avalanche hit Giyari Sector in the Siachen glacier burying 129
Pakistani soldiers and 11 civilians. More soldiers have died in Siachen glacier from
harsh weather conditions than from war.
