Location and Naming Hindukush is a great mountain range in Asia. It crosses Pakistan and Afghanistan. The name Hindu Kush derived from Persian (Farsi) language literally means 'Kills the Hindu' , a reminder of the days when Indian slaves from the Indian subcontinent (who their enslavers referred to as Hindus) died in the harsh weather typical of the Afghan mountains while being transported to Central Asia .It is 800 km long. h   Skardu is the capital of Skardu district in Gilgit Baltistan. Skardu is located in the 10 kilometres (6 miles) wide by 40 kilometres (25 miles) long Skardu valley at the confluence of the Indus and the Shigar River.
