Gilgit ( گلگت ) is the capital city the of newly created Gilgit District within the Gilgit Baltistan territory. The town's ancient name was Sargin , later to be known as Gilit , and it is still referred to as Gilit or Sargin-Gilit by local people. In the Burushaski language it is named Geelt and in Wakhi and Khowar it is called Gilt . It is capital city of Gilit Baltistan region. Gilgit city is one of the two major hubs for all mountaineering expeditions in Gilgit Baltistan. Almost all tourists headed for treks in karakoram orHimalyan Ranges arrive at Gilgit first. Gilgit is served by the nearby Gilgit Airport.   Sulaiman Range ,  mountain mass in central Pakistan, extending southward about 280 miles (450 km) from the Gumal Pass to just north of Jacobabad, separating Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab from Balochistan. Its heights gradually decrease toward the south, with summits averaging 6,000–7,000 feet (1,800–2,100 metres), the highest being the twin peaks (30 miles [48 km] from the Gumal Pass) called Takht-i-Sulaiman, or Solomon’s Throne, which legend connects with Solomon’s visit to Hindustan; the higher of the peaks, at 18,481 feet (5,633 metres), is the site of a ziyārat (shrine) visited annually by many pilgrims. The range’s eastern face dips steeply to the Indus River, but on the west the range declines more gradually. The Pamir Mountains , also known as “Roof of the World” in Vcitorian times and in chinese by the name Congling (Onion Mountain), are actaully formed by the junction of the three other ranges which are Hindu kush, Karakoram and Tian Shan. Pamir mountain range lie in Kyrgyzstan, China, Afghanstan and Northern Areas of Pakistan. Location and Naming Hindukush is a great mountain range in Asia. It crosses Pakistan and Afghanistan. The name Hindu Kush derived from Persian (Farsi) language literally means 'Kills the Hindu' , a reminder of the days when Indian slaves from the Indian subcontinent (who their enslavers referred to as Hindus) died in the harsh weather typical of the Afghan mountains while being transported to Central Asia .It is 800 km long. The Himalaya is a mountain range separating subcontinent from Tibetan plateau. The Himalaya is home to the world's highest peaks. Mount Everest is also here. h   Skardu is the capital of Skardu district in Gilgit Baltistan. Skardu is located in the 10 kilometres (6 miles) wide by 40 kilometres (25 miles) long Skardu valley at the confluence of the Indus and the Shigar River. Skardu is situated at an altitude of nearly 2,500 m (8,200 ft). The town is surrounded by grey-brown coloured mountains, which hide the 8000 m high peaks of the nearby Karakoram range. Skardu is the name of the city and the name of the district too. K7 Peak

K7    K7 peak is situated in the Masherbrum range. The nearby glaciers are Kaberi and Charakusa. Possible route to the peak is from Khapulo in Baltistan through khaplu to Hushe valley. Another route is from khaplu to Haldi, Thagas, Dumsum and kondus Kaberi glacier. Some maps show its height as 6,934m, while others show it as 6,935m. It was in 1955 that members of Harvard Mountaineering Club Karamoram Expedition examined K-7 peak with a view to climbing it. In 1976, an eight member strong expedition of Fukuoka Climbing Club expedition from Japan tried their cluck on this peak. It however failed because of shortage of time. In 1977, the Japan Asia University Karakoram Expedition led by Nabue Sakamoto attempted the peak from its west face through Charakusa glacier but was unsuccessful. The party consisted of 12 members.
